# Claude and ChatGPT (MCP)

> Use GammaFlip data from an AI assistant: connect once, sign in, ask in plain words

GammaFlip has a remote MCP server. Add it to Claude or ChatGPT as a connector, sign in
with your GammaFlip account, and the assistant can read the same data this API serves.
There is no API key to create.

**Server URL**

```
https://mcp.gammaflip.io/mcp
```

<Card title="Step-by-step setup with screenshots" icon="book-open" href="https://gammaflip.io/blog/connect-gammaflip-to-claude-and-chatgpt/">
  Claude and ChatGPT, the example prompt, and what the assistant can and cannot do.
</Card>

## Connect

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="Claude">
    1. Open **Customize → Connectors**, click **Add**, then **Add custom connector**.
    2. Name it GammaFlip and paste the server URL.
    3. Keep the detected settings, click **Add**, then **Connect**.
    4. Sign in with your GammaFlip account and click **Allow**.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Claude Code">
    ```bash theme={null}
    claude mcp add --transport http gammaflip https://mcp.gammaflip.io/mcp
    ```

    Then run `/mcp` and authenticate.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="ChatGPT">
    1. Open **Settings → Plugins → Browse directory**.
    2. Click **Add**, then **Add custom MCP server**.
    3. Name: GammaFlip. Server URL as above. Authentication: OAuth. Confirm and click **Create as a plugin**.
    4. Click **Continue to GammaFlip**, sign in and click **Allow**.
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

Menu names in both apps change from time to time. The server URL is the only thing you need.

## Access and limits

Access follows the same rule as the API: any plan or trial that includes API access, for
the [markets](/markets-and-exchanges) in that plan. Requests share your
[daily quota](/rate-limits) with the REST API. The lookups marked "No" below are free.

## Tools

All tools are read-only. Each one wraps an API endpoint and returns the same JSON,
so the [data dictionary](/data-dictionary) applies unchanged.

| Tool | Endpoint | Counts against the quota |
| - | - | - |
| `get_levels` | [`/levels`](/api-reference/levels), with `compare` | Yes |
| `get_gex_by_strike` | [`/gex/by-strike-enhanced`](/api-reference/by-strike-enhanced) | Yes |
| `get_term_structure` | [`/gex/term-oi`](/api-reference/term-oi) | Yes |
| `get_levels_history` | [`/history/levels`](/api-reference/history-levels) | Yes |
| `get_snapshot_at` | [`/history/snapshot`](/api-reference/history-snapshot) | Yes |
| `list_symbols` | [`/exchanges`](/api-reference/exchanges) + [`/coins`](/api-reference/coins) + [`/me`](/api-reference/me) | No |
| `list_expirations` | [`/expirations`](/api-reference/expirations) | No |
| `get_history_coverage` | [`/history/coverage`](/api-reference/history-coverage) | No |
| `get_account` | [`/me`](/api-reference/me) | No |

Not available through MCP: history file downloads ([`/history/files`](/api-reference/history-files)),
chart images, alerts, and anything that changes your account.

## Errors

Plan, market and quota problems come back as a tool error with a plain explanation, not as
a sign-in prompt:

* **"Does not have an active plan or trial"**: the account has no API access.
* **"The … market is not included in this account's plan"**: the symbol is outside your plan.
* **"Daily request limit … has been reached"**: the quota resets at midnight UTC.
* **"Temporarily unavailable"**: try again in a minute.

For anything the assistant gets wrong about a symbol or a parameter, the tool error repeats
the API's own message; see [Errors](/errors).
